A little about glue

Have you wondered how to repair suits and equipment by gluing?
This article gives you an overview of the different types of glue and how they are used.

ONE-COMPONENT VS. TWO-COMPONENT

The biggest difference between one- and two-component glue is that two-component glue can be stored longer before it goes bad. Two-component is usually stronger. Read about areas of use for the different types of glue in this article.

BOSTIK EVOSTIK

• Two-component adhesive
• Strong adhesive, made for gluing neoprene/rubber for normal use.
• Mixing ratio: 5ltr glue against 163gr hardener (25:1).
• Application: 3 layers, minimum 20 minutes curing time between layers. When the third layer has dried for 8-10 minutes, the parts are ready to join. They should be as sticky as a post-it note.
• This is the same type of glue that BARE uses in its suit production.

REMA TIP TOP SC400

• Two-component adhesive.
• Very strong, made for gluing together conveyor belts. The downside is that you have to grind away suit parts that need to be replaced.
• Mixing ratio: 660gr glue against 30gr hardener (22:1).
• Application: 3 layers. The first layer should cure for a minimum of 1 hour before the second layer is applied. When the third layer has dried for 6-8 minutes, the parts are ready to join.
• Thinner: REMA #50 solvent.
• See user manual.

SITECH PU GLUE

• Polyurethane glue.
• Delivered complete with hardener in it.
• Heat activated.
• Medium strength.
• Acetone diluted.
• Application: 3 layers, minimum 20 minutes curing time between layers. When the third layer is completely dry, the parts can be joined. Apply heat to make the glue adhere.

GA BLACK WITCH NEOPRENE GLUE

• One-component vulcanizing glue, used to glue neoprene to neoprene.
• Application: 1 layer. The layer must dry/work for at least 5-10 minutes before the parts are brought together. Remember that the parts must be pressed firmly against each other to achieve strength in the gluing.

GA AQUASURE

• Urethane-based adhesive/sealant.
• Well suited for laying as a patch over holes, seams etc.
• Dilute with GA Cure Accellerator.

DEGREASING

• To get a good gluing job, it is very important to degrease the area before you start applying glue. Many types of solvent can be used here, the important thing is that it does not leave any greasy substance.
• Recommend using GA Cure Accelerator or Acetone.
