Travel letter from Lofoten - part 2

Lofoten and Vesterålen, above water and below the surface.

The weather turned as expected and we had lovely days in Lofoten and Vesterålen. It is not without reason that Lofoten attracts tourists from all over the world. Here you can climb and dive, surf, paddle and hike, rent a boat and fish or just enjoy the sight of mighty mountains rising from the sea. Attpåtil under the midnight sun.

Snorkeling and diving trip in Nyksund fulfilled, we got an airy mountain trip and some smaller mountain trips, a few days of swimming and SUP-boarding, and once at home we dream of going back. And my dear grandmother is not getting any younger, so it was good to eat lefse, drink coffee and hear her voice and see her smile again. "I don't understand why tourists come here," my grandmother once said. "Here there are only rocks and mountains". She enjoyed watching the tourists, but did not understand what they were looking at. For us, it is the finest place on earth. But we haven't struggled here like the old ones.

Babysitting and excursion to Nyksund

We are usually stationed in the south of Lofoten, so it was nice to have a trip from south to north in Lofoten and further up into Vesterålen! For these two half-tired parents of small children, the four hours alone in the car through a beautiful and majestic landscape was also a luxury. An opportunity for a good chat, rest, a little adventure!
Before we left, we had booked a trip with Nyksund Artic Ocean Adventures . The road to Nyksund is narrow and winding and wilder than anything we had driven on so far in Lofoten and Vesterålen. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed on the quay. Aleksander Nordahl and the gang had full control over the freediving equipment for all of us who had signed up for the trip and we were soon placed in a row in the rib cage.

Instructions and a good mood before departure.

Then we sped off with the ribs. The trip went to a secluded sandy beach. Turquoise sea, lots of crabs and a large, beautiful kelp forest. For the husband, who is new to snorkeling and freediving, a snorkeling trip was perfect. He also received help and guidance to dive and had his first dives below the surface.

Have fun diving under the kelp!

The kelp forest is fantastic and the visibility good. Tall kelp trunks with dense kelp grow up from the bottom and hide a world beneath the kelp.

After the diving trip , Nyksund Artic Ocean Adventures offered waffles, coffee and an exhibition of Nordahl's beautiful underwater photographs included in the experience.

We saw whales from shore twice, and a seal, during our stay in Lofoten. But underwater, I have the advantage of seeing the larger sea animals.

Now it's time to go home and test the harpoon as soon as possible. This chick wants to go on new underwater adventures!

When the day in Nyksund was over, we turned the nose, or the car, back towards Lofoten. Delicious holiday days passed far too quickly, but after two weeks close together in a house with many (nice) people, it's not entirely wrong to come home to your own living room either! Over and out!

Regards, Ida

Delicious with hiking and swimming!

Waves and evening sun.

Sup was fun for young and old, and suddenly a huge cod swam below us a little further out!

Tukist sea, rorbue and mountains.

The trip up Reinebringen is airy and with a fantastic view.
