Children and snorkelling - safety rules

When you breathe in a snorkel, you must breathe extra deeply to ensure fresh air to the lungs. This is particularly important for children who have smaller lungs than us adults.

Children under the age of 7 should not use a snorkel at all. Children from this age and up until they have a body weight of around 50 kg can use a children's snorkel that has a volume of 1-1.2 dl, and under the supervision of adults.

Children and young people over 50 kilos can use an adult snorkel, but must be aware of the importance of breathing extra deeply to prevent CO2 poisoning. If in doubt, you can cut the snorkel off a few centimeters to make it shorter.

As a guardian, you are always responsible for children who snorkel. The equipment you need can be found here.
