Free valve health check

Remember when your breather valve was new?
Is it as easy-going today as it was then?

As we use the diving equipment, it wears out, and the o-rings, seats and seals mold to the moving components inside the breathing valve. This will eventually affect the valve's performance. Most brands today recommend service every other year and an annual health check.

What is the difference?

SERVICE

When a breather valve comes in for service, it is disassembled, and all o-rings, seals and seats are removed and replaced, before all components are cleaned and inspected according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The hoses are checked for damage and date stamping.

Once this has been done, brand-specific service kits are fitted that replace o-rings, seals and seats. After the cleaning valve has been reassembled, the intermediate pressure of the first stage and the opening pressure of the second stage are adjusted according to the manufacturer's instructions. This is a comprehensive process and gives the service technician a comprehensive view of the valve's condition and expected lifetime. In many ways, you can compare a valve service with service and EU inspection of a car.

HEALTH CHECK

A health check does not take long and does not have to be extensive. Here, the valve is connected to a test bench and the values on the first and second stage are checked against reference values set by the valve's manufacturer.

The filter in the first-stage DIN coupling is checked and replaced if necessary. When checking the filter, water ingress into the valve can often be detected and consequential damage that may arise from this can be limited. Annual health check is recommended by almost all recognized manufacturers of breathing valves.
